Guest Hosting

What do we ask of our homestay hosts?

We ask that our hosts welcome their guests into their home as a member of the family and not simply as a paying guest.

On your guests' arrival at your home and during their stay, please take the time to give them an orientation of your local area, including how to use London transport and how to purchase an Oyster card, mobile phone or sim card, for example. We also ask that our hosts exchange mobile numbers with their guests in case of emergency, especially in the first few days of their arrival to the UK.

  • We request that our hosts have their evening meals with their guests and engage in conversation with them on a daily basis.
  • It is very important that hosts do not accommodate two guests with the same native language at the same time (unless it is a twin booking through UKguests).

The guest room

Our homestay hosts are required to provide a bedroom that is in good decorative order and is adequately furnished with the following:

  • A full-sized bed (single or double)Guest room
  • A wardrobe
  • A table or desk
  • A comfortable chair
  • A window
  • A mirror
  • A chest of drawers or similar storage
  • A table lamp or adequate lighting
  • Adequate heating
  • A towel
  • Facilities for a daily shower
  • Access to washing and ironing facilities
  • An emergency family contact number
  • A meal plan subject to agreement

All meals provided by hosts, with the exception of breakfast, must be taken with their guests in a suitable dining area. Guests must not be given their meals separately unless in an absolute emergency.

  • Bed and breakfast Hosts provide a continental breakfast, which most guests will prepare themselves, as the majority of hosts work.
  • Half board Hosts provide a continental breakfast and the same evening meal as they and their family have.
  • Full board Hosts provide a continental breakfast, lunch and an evening meal. On weekdays the lunch will be a packed lunch.
  • Self catering Hosts will need to allocate storage space in their kitchen cupboard and refrigerator for guests to store food items.

I think that it is a good idea that international students live in a British family when they come to England. In this way, students can learn English more easily and practise it all the time.
